Guest Speaker - Dawn Wood
Categories: Parent's Information
On Tuesday 16 October we were delighted to welcome a former student, Dawn Wood, back to William de Ferrers School.
Dawn, who is a professional yacht master and skipper with the Essex police marine unit, spoke to a selection of year 8, 9 and 13 geography classes about her upcoming 'Row Aurora' challenge. This challenge will see Dawn attempting to break the world record for the fastest time a solo female has crossed of the Atlantic, whilst at the same time collecting valuable scientific data and evidence on ocean plastic pollution.
Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed listening to Dawn's fascinating presentation. At the end of her presentation one year 8 student commented ‘I enjoyed listening to Dawn Wood today because she inspired me and made me think if I put my mind to do something, I can do it. You don't need all the money in the world, just a big dream’.
