Changes to Use of Mobile Phones in School
Categories: Parent's Information
As mentioned in previous Headteacher bulletins, we have consulted with parents and staff and explored the possibility of banning mobile phones at William de Ferrers School.
We revisited this theme at the parent forum meeting on 28th June 2018 and they were again unanimous in their view that the ban of mobile phones will benefit young people both socially and educationally.
We can confirm that the decision that mobile phones will be banned from September 2018 has now been made.
Students will be permitted to have their phones on the school premises but they must be switched off and kept in their bags. We will be adopting the policy of: ‘If we don’t see it and we don’t hear it we won’t take it’.
We recognise that mobile phones are often used for communicating with parents and friends before and after school, which students can continue to do away from the school premises. We will be discussing with students in the final weeks of the summer term the best way to implement this new rule and appropriate sanctions.
Thank you in advance for your support, which will undoubtedly benefit the students of William de Ferrers School.
