Welcome to the Religion, Philosophy and Ethics department.
The aim of the religion, philosophy and ethics curriculum at KS3 is to encourage all students to learn about different faiths including Humanism and non-belief, and reflect upon their own belief and spirituality. No assumptions are made about students’ individual beliefs but all are encouraged to be open and respectful of the beliefs of others. Reflection upon the issues raised by religion is promoted as well as how religion and worldview affect everyone in the 21st century.
Staff within the department have many years of expert knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject, and by using a wide variety of teaching and learning styles we aim to help all students to learn more, and ask questions. Some lessons will involve individual research style learning tasks, group work, peer presentations and classroom debates. Assessments are based upon students knowledge and understanding as well as their ability to evaluate the philosophical ideas and ethic issues put before them.
The department offers many enrichment opportunities for students as well as trips to a Sikh Gurdwara in Gravesend, Kent, a Muslim Mosque in Regents Park in London, a Jewish Synagogue and Museum in London and St Paul’s Cathedral.
