Geography
Welcome to the Geography Department page, I’m Mrs Reed, Head of Department for Geography, our department consists of four great teachers.
Geography is a vibrant subject based on the study of people and places. Our world is changing more rapidly now than ever and we seek to provide our learners with a clear understanding of these changes, as well as their subsequent implications for the future. We have designed our Geography Curriculum with the following aims in mind:
- To promote a knowledge of places at a variety of scales
- For learners to become aware of a range of human and physical environments and the processes that affect them
- To encourage an understanding of different communities and cultures within our own society and elsewhere in the world
- To encourage an awareness of how human interactions with physical processes can affect the planet, and how environments can be managed in a sustainable way
- To promote an appreciation of globalisation and its consequences
- To provide learners with an understanding of the fact that, as global citizens, we have certain rights and responsibilities.
Ultimately, we would like learners to build upon their sense of wonder and awe of the world in which we live.

It is worth pointing out that the order in which these units are taught in is not regimented, and varies from class to class.
At the end of each unit, learners complete an assessment that is given an assessment banding. Detailed feedback is provided by the class teacher to inform students what their areas of strength were, as well as how they can improve in the future. Assessments are carried out using a variety of formats including individual project work, oral presentations, enquiry-based group work, collecting and interpreting field data and the construction of geographical models.
