William de Ferrers was delighted to be the hosts for the Woodham Ferrers partnership of schools community online safety event last week.
The ‘Two Johns’ spent many years working as police detectives in various covert roles tackling online and offline child exploitation and are regarded as experts in their field of
They presented to primary school children in years 3-6 from all the local schools on
Wednesday and spoke to all of our students in years 7-11 on Thursday.
The Two Johns gave real life explanations as to what stranger danger looks like today, as well as speaking to parents about the reality of what young people are using their phones for, how they can work their way around parental controls and restrictions, and what the signs are when a young person is being targeted online. The talks for parents on Wednesday and Thursday evening were very well attended, and parents said the information that the Two Johns gave was extremely honest, eye opening and informative.
Thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to attend, and thank you to Friends of William de Ferrers who kindly funded the use of a big screen in the gym on Wednesday for the primary school presentations.
