If your child is in year 7-9, they will be participating in the accelerated reader programme from Renaissance Learning. This programme is run in partnership between William de Ferrers school and South Woodham Ferrers library.
Students visit the library during one of their English lessons every two weeks. They are also encouraged to make use of the library at lunchtime and during opening hours after school.
Accelerated reader (AR) is a targeted programme that helps us monitor students’ independent reading.  Students choose a book at their own level and read it at their own pace. Once finished, students take a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication the student has understood what they have read. AR gives both students and staff immediate feedback based on their quiz results. Students using AR may choose freely from a large range of books at their level.
A feature called home connect allows parents to monitor their child’s progress with accelerated reader. An email address can be added so a notification is sent every time a book quiz is completed.
To access accelerated reader home connect, visit http://homeconnect.wdfar.uk and use the login details below:
Username: Child’s initial and full surname (e.g. jsmith)
Password: Child’s six digit date of birth (e.g. ddmmyy)
If you have any questions or queries regarding accelerated reader, pop in and speak to a member of library staff.
