Our first ever colour run took place on Friday which proved to be a fantastic afternoon. Students from all year groups joined the fundraising fun by walking or running around the track while being covered in coloured powder and pelting their friends and teachers at the same time. There was an incredible amount of laughter and students were asking when the next one was going to be taking place before the colour run had even finished. Many thanks to the Friends of William de Ferrers for their inspirational idea and to all the staff and volunteers for the time and effort taken to organise this superb event.
We were delighted to welcome Molly Looby into the school on Wednesday. Molly is a published author and former student of William de Ferrers School and kindly offered to run a creative writing workshop for our students. Throughout the school year, all key stage 3 students take part in the accelerated reader programme. The students invited to the workshop were chosen for being the top ten students in their year group for the most amount of words read and quizzes completed this year. The students had a fantastic afternoon, gaining ideas from Molly about how to create characters, settings and plots. The students relished letting their imaginations come to life and creative ideas were exchanged in order to produce their own, personal, fictional characters and stories. Molly also signed copies of her latest novel, a zombie thriller called ‘ZA’, which many students bought as a lovely personal keepsake to take away with them. It was a wonderful afternoon and I hope all the students involved gained inspiration for their future creative writing.
Congratulations to Mr Diaz-Ward and his tutor group who, for the third consecutive year, won the sponsor day trip to Chessington by being the top fundraising tutor group. All of the students had a great time. So far the school has raised over £15,000.00 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. We will update you on the final total in September.
Very well done to Kiera Batty, Olivia Keen, Mollie Battersby, Georgie Wilson, Megan Baskett, Madison Hewes, Zoe Price and Ellie Warren from year 10 who this week have been raising money for Cancer Research by holding a cake sale. They have raised a very impressive £228.00.
Finally, well done to our fabulous students and staff. It is hard to believe our students have completed another successful academic year and the school holidays start today. I would like to thank our staff for their tireless work in making William de Ferrers a place where students feel happy and can achieve. I would also like to wish every success to those members of staff who are moving to pastures new and thank them for their invaluable contribution to the school.
I wish you all a relaxing summer and look forward to welcoming our students back in September.
