Extra Curricular

Duke of Edinburgh Award

If you have already begun a Duke of Edinburgh course you will be able to progress to the next level in the Sixth Form. Alternatively, you may wish to start on the Award Scheme. Several of our students have achieved Gold whilst still students at the school.

Insight into Management

For three days at the end of Year 12, you will have the opportunity to take part in an exciting management course, where you will learn skills invaluable both in the work place, at university or any other chosen onward destination.

Peer Support

Up to 25 Sixth Form students have the opportunity to be selected to  train as Peer Supporters  to work with younger pupils in the school who are feeling unhappy or are  having difficulties with friendships etc.  This is a very successful programme and is carried out in liaison with pastoral teams across the school.  Training as a peer supporter gives you opportunity to develop your communication skills, share your own experiences and act as a positive role model.

Students also often offer their time and support to pupils lower down the school. This includes the opportunity to support reading, subject specific mentoring, revision sessions and tutorial assistance. Whilst the Sixth Form students are expected to be reliable and trustworthy, they use their knowledge and experience to enhance the learning of the younger pupils. Both the Sixth Form students and the pupils find the experience most rewarding, continuing the tradition of the whole school working together.

Interact and Volunteering

During the Sixth Form you will receive the opportunity to work with the local community in supporting children and young adults with learning disabilities. This is through a scheme called ‘Interact’ where local children with limited opportunities are given the chance the live to experience activities that would not normally be available to them. The scheme supports our students working across the Chelmsford area to enhance the opportunities currently on offer. In the past our students have gone to the cinema, restaurants, activity centers and local parks. During the first term in Year 12 support and training is provided for those who apply and are successful.
Sixth Form students are the role models of our school and are therefore called upon to demonstrate their maturity and passion for the school at a number of events throughout the year. This includes Parents Evenings, Main School and Sixth Form Open Evenings, tours of the school and Interview Panels.

Year Book

Sixth Form students are invited to support the Year 11’s in producing their Year Book. This team communicates with students, teachers and departments to collate pictures, quotes and messages of support for the student’s exams.

Driving

Learning to drive is one of the most exciting opportunities all 17 year olds experience in Sixth Form. We have formed a partnership with Supreme Driving School who offer classroom and practical lessons to students who are 16 and preparing to learn to drive. The lessons take place after school and are offered on a first come first serve basis. More information will be provided during the first term in Year 12.

Sports

Our excellent sporting facilities, including the Fitness Room, are available for members of the Sixth Form to use throughout the school day. All students will be required to complete an insurance form, dress correctly and check with the PE department when the facility is free.
We also hold a range of competitive and non-competitive sporting opportunities throughout the year, including the Sixth Form vs Teachers Relay during Sports day. We also offer the U19 teams in Rugby, Football and Netball entry into the MESSSA district competitions.
